What Not to Wear to Graduation

Graduation is the last event you will ever attend in college. Once you walk across that stage and shake hands with the dean, the president, and the chancellor, and finally receive the diploma you have worked so hard for, you’re done with school for good. That being said, graduation is a major event, and it usually simultaneously marks the end of something old and the beginning of something new. So, who wouldn’t want to step out in style?

Graduation

Deciding what to wear for graduation requires more than merely picking up your cap and gown and making sure you put on the tassel correctly. You have to choose something to wear under the academic garb, too, and while it may not seem important, you don’t want to wear something that’s so uncomfortable you can’t enjoy yourself. What you end up wearing will ultimately depend on your personal taste and the style of the time, but no matter the trend, here are a few things you probably don’t want to be wearing once “Pomp and Circumstance” starts playing. Here are Hebeos tips for What Not to Wear to Graduation!

Uncomfortable Shoes

True, treating yourself to a new (and cute!) pair of shoes might be the special splurge you feel you deserve after your years of hard work in school. But you’ll likely be on your feet most, if not all, of the day. If you want a pair of shoes to help you stand out, go for bright colors that your friends and family can see beneath your graduation gown. Comfort, however, should definitely take priority; you don’t want to be hobbling around with blistered feet on a day when you feel like jumping for joy.

No Crazy Patterns

Many graduation robes are a very thin fabric, so make sure your outfit underneath does not show though! If your gown is white, make sure you also choose your color carefully. Also avoid anything with a collar or neckline that will show over your gown.

Keep it Simple

Graduation is almost always a somewhat formal, or semi formal, event. Make sure you keep your outfit appropriate, but shows your personality. Find a cute dress or skirt that is totally you, and keep your accessories minimal. Avoid flashy colors and embellishment and, and dresses that will hang below the hem of your gown.

Simple Hair

Sadly, your graduation cap will upstage whatever hairstyle you may choose. For graduation day find a hairstyle that can withstand hat hair, wearing your hair down or un a low bun or ponytail is best. Avoid looks with lots of volume or hairspray, and your look will quickly lose its bounce with your cap on.

Light Makeup

Not only will lighter, natural makeup make your Grandma happy, but it will also last longer at a hot graduation. If your graduation is outside, there is a chance that you will be sitting in the hot sun for several hours. There is nothing worse than having your makeup melt off from the heat or stress! Also be sure to keep some oil blotting sheets in your body in case, and you could also pack a small mirror to do a touch up before pictures after the ceremony.

We know graduation day can be stressful! Be sure to get everything ready beforehand, remain calm, and take tons of pictures! This is a day you will always want to rememeber.
